Cinema Novecento, Japan's smallest film cinema operated by Cinema Novecento Corporation (Location: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture), will hold a one-day limited screening of the heartwarming animation "Mr. Concierge at the Arctic Department Store" on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Director Masanori Itazu will be the guest speaker, and a talk show and autograph session will also be held.

A one-day special screening event of "Mr. Concierge at the North Pole Department Store," a mysterious and cute "animal x department store" entertainment for all those who work hard!

Based on the manga "Mr. Concierge at the North Pole Department Store" (published by Shogakukan "Big Comics Special") by Tuchika Nishimura, an illustrator and cartoonist with a unique style of meticulously layered lines.

This work, with its fascinating world view of the bizarre interweaving of humans and animals, has been adapted from the "HIQUE! series and "Ghost in the Shell!

The film is directed by up-and-coming animator Masanori Itatsu, who makes his directorial debut with this film.

He will bring to life the main character Akino and the other unique characters, while focusing on reproducing the beautiful lines drawn by Tuchika Nishimura and coloring "Arctic Department Store" with beautiful tones of the four seasons.

After the screening of the film, the special screening will be followed by a long talk show with director Masanori Itazu, who will talk about the difficulties he faced as a first-time director and his passion for this film!

Synopsis:

Akino starts working as a new concierge at "Arctic Department Store", a mysterious department store where all the customers are animals. She struggles to become a full-fledged concierge, and under the watchful eye of the floor manager and senior concierges, customers with all kinds of problems appear before her.

Among them, the "V.I.A." (Very Important Animal) customers, an extinct species, are all unique individuals with their own quirks. A Wallis Owl looking to please his wife of many years, a Sea Slug looking for a gift for his father, a Japanese wolf pondering how to propose to his girlfriend... Masanori Itazu (Yoshimi Itazu)

Born in 1980, Itazu entered the animation industry at the age of 18. He participated in "Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen Mae Hashutsujo" series (2004), "Paprika" (2006), and "The Wind Rises" (2013) as an original picture. He worked as character designer, animation director, and original picture for "Hyakkaben: Miss HOKUSAI" (2015), and assistant animation director for "The Deer King" (2022). He made his first attempt at directing a TV series with "Welcome to the Ballroom" (MBS/2017). This film marks his debut as a theatrical animation director.
