Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, one of the world's leading mountain tourism routes connecting Toyama and Nagano prefectures (operated by Tateyama Kurobe Kanko Co., Ltd.; head office: Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture), is scheduled to start operating the Tateyama Tunnel Electric Bus between Murodo and Daikanbo on April 15, 2025 (Tuesday).
What is the Tateyama Tunnel Electric Bus?
The Tateyama Tunnel Electric Bus is a new vehicle scheduled to be in operation from 2025, replacing the Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus, which connected Murodo (2,450 m above sea level) and Daikanbo (2,316 m above sea level) on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route until Saturday, November 30, 2024. As befits the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, which is located in the Chubu-Sangaku National Park, the electric buses will be introduced to reduce the environmental burden and enable stable operation at high altitude in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
About the wrapping design
All eight buses have different wrapping designs, featuring the Mikuri-ike Pond in Murodou-daira and other seasonal scenery representative of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, as well as a design collaborating with the animated film "Wolf Children: Rain and Snow" by Studio Chizu.
The wrapping design and the collaboration project with Studio Chizu are introduced in detail on the special website. Information on the electric bus-related events scheduled to be held from June will also be posted on the special site and SNS as needed.
