Production of aronia began about 30 years ago in Otaki Ward, Date City, Hokkaido, which is one of the coolest areas in Hokkaido, and boasts the largest amount of aronia cultivation in Japan. Aronia is called a superfood for the following reasons.

They contain an extremely high amount of anthocyanins, as much β-carotene as green and yellow vegetables, 4.5 times more iron than prunes, and more dietary fiber than prunes.
