City of Tedako / Urasoe’s “Amakuma Acchun Roman Walk” Executing Committee will be hosting the “Stroll around City of Tedako / Urasoe walking event [Tedako Walk 2025]” on February 15th, 2025 (Sat) with the Tedako Square, located inside the Urasoe Cultural Park, in Urasoe City, Okinawa, as the main venue.
*[Tedako] means “The Child of the Sun.” And also, the honorific title of King Eiso, who flourished as the 2nd royal line of the Ryukyu Kingdom. His father was King Ezo-no-Yononushi (Lord of Iso Castle), whom’s wife is to have dreamt of the sun entering her bosom and wrapped around Eiso, and thus derived his divine title “Eiso-no-Tedako.”

■About the 22nd Tedako Walk 2025
As one of Okinawa’s largest walking events, this year’s event, the 22nd of its kind, will feature 6 courses, so more participants can partake from in and outside of the prefecture! This is the second year for the one-day event format, and it is fully loaded with courses such as:
[Sun (Tiida) Ranman “Shining Sun” Urasoe/Shuri Exploration Course], that tours Urasoe, Shuri, and JICA facilities, [Urasoe Streets Walk and Camp Kinser Touring Course]**, [Tedako Wakuwaku “Child of the Sun Exciting” Adventurous Course], for the whole family to enjoy,[Clean Walk] course, for participants to enjoy the walk while contributing to environmental preservation and societal contribution, and the [Night Course], offers a night view of Urasoe, which is recognized as one of the three best night views in Okinawa Prefecture. The event will feature performances by performers and civilian organizations from within and outside the prefecture, kitchen car vendors, and etc., so children and adults alike can enjoy the “City of Tedako” throughout the shift from morning to night.

● Course Explanation
This is the longest and most hilly course in the event. It will take you through the city center of Urasoe City and the historic sightseeing spots of adjacent Shuri, Naha. The course is rich in content, including the hospitality of the local community association and passing through the JICA Okinawa facilities, etc. You can also enjoy lunch at a special price at the OIC cafeteria inside JICA Okinawa.

[Urasoe Streets Walk and Camp Kinser Touring Course]
● Course Explanation
This is a course that includes the normally off-limits U.S. military base, Camp Kinser, and the streets of Urasoe’s main shopping district, Yafuso Area. The route is somewhat hilly, but you can eat and drink inside Camp Kinser, so no need to challenge yourself too hard and take adequate breaks.

[Tedako Wakuwaku “Child of the Sun Exciting” Adventurous Course] (Family Course)
● Course Explanation
Enjoy Bingo and Quizzes as you stroll along with family or friends around Tedako Hall. This is a great way to slow down and enjoy the surrounding area that you might normally overlook. There are no stairs on this course, so you can participate in a wheelchair or with a stroller.

[Urasoe Historical Touring Gusuku (Castle) Course]
● Course Explanation
This is a classic course filled with the history and culture of Urasoe. Touring through most of the 8 scenic spots in Urasoe; Urasoe Castle Ruins, Urasoe Youdore Mausoleum, Wakarijii (Needle Rock), Ahacha Bridge, and Urasoe City Art Museum (although there are some hills, the distance is short (5 km) and you can enjoy the great view from the hill). There is a history guide explaining the historic sites of Urasoe City as well!

[Tedako Clean Walk] *Free Participation
● Course Explanation
“We want to nurture the habit of ‘not littering’ through the experience of ‘picking up’”
While enjoying the walk, participants will have an opportunity to think about and become aware of the beautification of the city's environment. Cleaning tools are available for rental, making participation easy. Participants who bring the trash they’ve pick up to the trash collection point will receive a commemorative gift.
● Notice
*Cleaning tools (tongs and garbage bags) will be available for rent.
*There is no set course. Participants are expected to walk around the venue and pick up litter on their own.

● Course Explanation
This course offers a night view of Urasoe, which is recognized as one of the three best night views in Okinawa. You can enjoy the gorgeous night view of the city from the hilltop of Urasoedai Park. (Please bring your own lights as there are no outside lights in some areas.)
