History of Itohkyuemon
It was in the late Edo period (Tempo 3) that Tsuneemon Itoh I and Takizo Itoh were engaged in the tea business in the village of Meimura, Tahara Village (present-day Uji-Tawaraminami). The tea business was then passed down from generation to generation through Ito Tsuneemon II and Kyuzaburo, Ito Tsuneemon III and Yoshimatsu, and Ito Takichi IV. In 1952, Kyuzo Ito V moved from Uji-Tawara to Uji, and opened a store selling Uji tea at Uji-Renge (present-day Heidoin Omotesando). In the same year, when he established the company, he took the name of Ito Tsuneemon, which had been passed down from generation to generation, and the first letter of "Hisa" in Ito Kyuzo's own name, and named the company "Itohkyuemon Co. In Uji-Tawara, where the company was founded, the Ito family continues to grow tea in the tea plantation that has been passed down from generation to generation.
