Japan's last trollybus "Tateyama Tunnel Trollybus" will end on Saturday, November 30!

The Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus, the last trolleybus in Japan connecting Murodo and Daikanbo on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route (operated by Tateyama Kurobe Kanko Co., Ltd.; head office: Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture), a world-class mountain tourism route linking Toyama and Nagano Prefectures, will be in its final service on November 30, 2024 (Saturday). This unique trolleybus, which looks like a bus but is actually a train, has been loved by many people, and the total number of passengers has reached approximately 19.9 million (as of November 10) since it started operation in 1996.
Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus: The Past and Present
To commemorate the last run of the Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus, the only trolleybus currently in operation in Japan, on Saturday, November 30, various events have been held since Saturday, June 1 this year, including the distribution of last run cards, events such as backyard tours, message boards, commemorative food and goods sales, etc. The event has already been held for those who applied in advance. The number of applicants for the events that required advance application exceeded the maximum number of participants, and in particular, the number of applicants for the last ride was nearly five times as many as the maximum number of 200.
