~ Ancient letters with strong vitality transmit energy to the present day~.
らいら工房 Raira Kobo
Kei Sato, the representative of Raira Kobo (Aichi Prefecture), will hold a solo exhibition titled "Transforming Ancient Characters into Contemporary Space" to commemorate the 55th anniversary of his calligraphy career from December 27, 2024 to January 5, 2025 at the Keio Plaza Hotel Lobby Gallery in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The exhibition will feature more than 100 works.
Ancient characters are the prototype of the Chinese characters used today. They were used for divination in ancient China more than 3,000 years ago, and were engraved on the shoulder blades of cows and the shells of turtles. These characters were born from the culture and customs of a time when there was no paper, so they have a strong hieroglyphic element, and are full of a mysterious charm not found in modern standard script characters.

Contents of "Ancient Scripts in Contemporary Space
The ancient Chinese script, which was born more than 3,000 years ago in ancient China, has been connected to the present day through the passage of time, with changes in typefaces but no changes in the basic system, and without a single break in the system. I hope to convey this energy to the present day by writing these characters with their strong life force back in their ancient form. (Kei Sato)
