Cinema Novecento, Japan's smallest film cinema operated by Cinema Novecento Corporation (located in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture), will hold screenings of "Kamino Fude: Kaiju-tachi no iru Shima" on November 30 (Sat.) and December 1 (Sun.), 2024, with Keizo Murase as the first general director.
Legendary director Keizo Murase has created the foundation of today's monster sculpting, working on the "Godzilla," "Gamera," and "Daimajin" series, as well as many others.
Murase's first film as general director, "Kaminofude: Kaiju-tachi no iru shima" is an original fantasy film based on a plot he wrote down at the request of a Hong Kong-based Shaw Brothers producer in the 1970s.
The original concept design was created by Akira Takahashi, who is known not only for his character designs for Toei tokusatsu hero films, but also for his art designs for Kinji Fukasaku's films.
Shinji Nishikawa, also known as the designer of the "Godzilla" series, designed the monster Yamata-no-orochi that appears in this film, and other prominent special effects film staff from the Showa, Heisei, and 2025 eras were brought together!
An analog tokusatsu film presented to a new generation was born here!
This screening will include a special screening of the short film "The Land of Fog" directed by Daisuke Sato, who also served as producer and special effects director.
In addition to Director Daisuke Sato, daily guests will include screenwriter Ken Nakazawa and Masanori Machida (James), well-known to tokusatsu fans for his work on "Daikyoju Gappa" and other films.
This is a must-see for fans of special effects films, as it is a perfect fusion of Japan's proud analog special effects technology and new-age CG technology!
