Wazabi Corporation

Wazabi Corporation (Location: Taito-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Hirotaka Nagao), a company that plans products with unconventional and free ideas, has launched a men's product "Tabi Shoes" on the support purchase site "Makuake" in collaboration with the Tokyo Yuzen craftsmen group "Somemoyo". The company has achieved 200% of its sales target.

The next goal is to reach 300%, which will be achieved by October 20, 2024 (Sun.) at 10:00 p.m.

Concept

The concept of the project is to bring Japanese traditions to the world through the journey of two female craftspeople who "Yuzen the World".

We want to spread the traditional craft "Tokyo Tegaki Yuzen".

Made in Tokyo" - High quality printed lamb leather, made with craftsmen in Asakusa, the city of shoes.

*Hokusai ~Waves

We selected "Katsushika Hokusai" in the hope that people overseas will know about it. Fuji and waves from "Kanagawa Okinamiura," which is also used on the new banknote, spread across the back of the foot.

*Yatagarasu

This is an original work by the yuzen craftsmen group SOME MOYO and Miyayuki Ohno. Yatagarasu, which is said to be the god of guidance, is also known overseas, and this design was very popular at an exhibition in France.

*Edo Bijin and Someiyoshino

Two types of ukiyoe by "Kitagawa Tsukimaro" selected by Kumiko Machida of Somemoyo and Someiyoshino painted by Ohno were combined to bring out the glamour of the work.

<1>Fusion of traditional Tabi Shoes making method and Made In TOKYO leather shoes

By eliminating the lamb skin lining (lining material for the instep), we pursued breathability, a feeling of being wrapped around the foot, and comfort for the foot, which is difficult to achieve with the fabric material originally used for Tabi Shoes.

<2>Yuzen design that makes both feet into one piece

We aimed to enhance the reproduction of the delicate original design by using craftsmen's techniques so that both feet look like a single piece of artwork when they are placed together.

<3>Light and strong foamed EVA sole and insole

The use of foamed EVA as the material for the sole has made it lightweight.

The insoles are made of highly resilient EVA sponge and durable, breathable pigskin.

<4> Highly Reproducible Printed Leather Technology

Printed leather is produced by T.M.Y's/LEATHER LAB TOKYO ( https://www.leatherlabtokyo.com/ ) in cooperation with YUSUKE TAGUCHI DESIGN ( https://www.tagutagujp.com/ ).

The luxurious use of thick, rare lamb skin from Mongolia is dyed and finished in a way that brings out the color and adhesiveness of ink-jet printing.

Tokyo Yuzen Craftsmen's Group "Somemoyo" puts their heart into Tabi Shoes.

SOMEMOYO has been searching for a yuzen style that can be easily enjoyed by anyone in daily life.

The Tabi Shoes, a collaboration of shoes and yuzen developed by Wazabi, was planned in the hope that it would be a chance to travel around the world wearing yuzen casually and to have various encounters with people.

We believe that creating yuzen products in various genres will help preserve and pass on the art of yuzen.
