Jomon Gallery "JOMON" (Location: Konan-ku, Niigata City; Representative: Takao Koike), a store specializing in Jomon goods located inside a "Japanese candle store" that has been in business since the Meiji era, saw an expert's research on the possibility of using flame-shaped earthenware as tableware and cooking utensils and, after 10,000 years, wanted to revive it as tableware, The company has developed a Jomon earthenware-shaped pot, "Kaen-gata DONABE," and will begin selling it by reservation from October 2024.

The only national treasure among Japanese Jomon earthenware is the Kaen-gata DONABE, which is on display at the Tokamachi City Museum in Niigata Prefecture. It is unearthed only in Niigata Prefecture along the Shinano River, the largest river in Japan, and has become the center of attention of ancient romance with its astonishing beauty of form in the world.

A long-established Japanese candle store in Niigata started developing it as a candleholder 10 years ago. In the 2025 era, the shop met with a first-class architect and, using the latest data analysis, completed the production of an elaborate replica of a flame-shaped earthenware vessel.

However, even in Niigata Prefecture, which is famous among Jomon enthusiasts for its Jomon earthenware, Jomon culture has not spread very far. Recent research has shown that Jomon earthenware has traces of boiling and cooking, which led to the development of the earthenware pots.

We hope that the earthenware pots will help people learn about the history of the Jomon through the food of Japan.
