The essence of bel canto opera is here.
The superb harmony of music and story will be an experience that will shake you to your heart's content.
In collaboration with the Nissay Theatre, Fujiwara Opera Company will present "Peer de Tolomei," one of the masterpieces of Donizetti, the master of bel canto, at the peak of his career.
This work, which also appears in Dante's "Divine Comedy," depicts the tragedy and compassion of the "Peer of Tolomei," whose destiny is derailed by jealousy and misunderstanding. The title role will be played by Haru Ito (11/22 & 24), who is now a very active prima donna of Fujiwara Opera Company, and Miho Sakoda (11/23), who has earned tremendous trust and applause with her reliable voice and technique. Nello, Peia's husband and the head of Maremma, will be played by Soshiro Ide (11/22 & 24), a young singer who has been selected for many baritone roles in bel canto and has a steady and beautiful voice, and Kenji Moriguchi (11/23), a veteran who has always attracted a large audience. Takuya Fujita (11/22 & 24) and Hiroaki Kaido (11/23) will play Gino, Nello's cousin, an unusual villain for a tenor. Rodrigo, Pia's younger brother and a trouser player, will be played by Yukako Hoshi (11/22 & 24) and Ayaka Kitazono (11/23). Other leading singers of Fujiwara Opera Company will color this masterpiece. The production will be led by Norichika Iimori, a highly acclaimed opera singer active around the world, and Marco Gandini, who is at the forefront of traditional opera staging. The orchestra will be the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, which has an established reputation for its precise performance, and will be performing with Fujiwara Opera Company for the second time. This is a bel canto opera with a superb stage performance and many gem arias. The beautifully honed melodies will deeply penetrate the hearts of the audience. Please look forward to this rare performance with beautiful music and stage!
