Crafty Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Tetsuya Kazama) opened the Vietnam Thao Dien branch of its rice ball specialty restaurant "MUSUBITEI " in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. The restaurant uses carefully selected ingredients such as Koshihikari rice from Niigata Prefecture, seaweed from Ariake, and other ingredients, and offers freshly made rice balls made to order.
The restaurant attracted a large number of customers immediately after its opening, and over the course of six days, approximately 1,000 people including takeout orders, enjoyed OMUSUBI!
We will continue to challenge various new businesses and aim to be a bridge between Vietnam and Japan.
The three main features of "MUSUBITEI" in Thao Dien, Vietnam.
MUSUBITEI has two branches in Shibuya, Tokyo, and has now opened its third branch in the Thao Dien district of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. We aim to become a restaurant loved by Vietnamese people as a place where they can enjoy Japanese food and culture while in Vietnam.
Specialty (1): Using carefully selected ingredients, customers can enjoy authentic Japanese-style omusubi.
We use carefully selected ingredients such as Koshihikari rice from Niigata Prefecture, laver from Ariake, and other ingredients. Koshihikari rice from Niigata Prefecture is imported from Japan in brown rice, and freshly milled rice is used to provide delicious omusubi that are just as good as those in Japan. In addition, sashimi, sake, and shochu are offered exclusively at the Thao Dien branch, creating a space where customers can enjoy authentic Japanese food in a relaxed atmosphere. Although we initially considered localizing the restaurant to meet Vietnamese tastes, we have dared to reproduce the taste of Japanese food as it is served in Japan, because we want our customers to enjoy authentic Japanese food.
Attention to detail (2): Uniquely Japanese customer service
We always try to create a clean space. The Shibuya branch is a counter only restaurant, but we also have table seating at the Thao Dien restaurant so that our customers can experience the hospitality and attentive service that is the best of Japan. We hope that our customers can enjoy the authentic Japanese food culture and hospitality with their family and friends.
Commitment (3): Guaranteeing Japanese quality at an affordable price
At the same time, we are working to reduce costs by sourcing locally in Vietnam where possible, so we can offer the same high quality as in Japan at a reasonable price.
We are committed to making "Japanese Omusubi" the norm in Vietnam. Background and Vision for Expansion into Vietnam
The Shibuya branch of MUSUBITEI has been visited by a large number of foreign visitors to Japan. This inspired us to consider expanding overseas.. In considering where to open a restaurant, we saw potential in Vietnam, a country with remarkable economic growth in recent years and, like Japan, a rice powerhouse and rice culture. When considering expansion into Vietnam, we made numerous trips to the country, but despite the fact that rice is readily available, there were very few tasty omusubi like those in Japan. In addition, many people in Vietnam have an image of omusubi as "com nam," a kind of pressed sushi that was eaten during the war, and I felt that it was not recognized as a gourmet food.
We hope that our entry into this market will be an opportunity for the Vietnamese people to enjoy authentic Japanese omusubi. Through our omusubi, we would like to spread the taste of Japanese ingredients and the spirit of hospitality in Vietnam.
In Vietnam, where the fast food and take-out culture is widespread, the easy-to-eat Vietnamese version of the sandwich "Banh Mi" is popular as soul food. Omusubi, like "Banh Mi," can be eaten quickly and easily transported, and we feel that they are a good match for Vietnamese culture. We hope that Japanese omusubi will become as popular as "Banh Mi," creating even more opportunities for Vietnamese people to experience Japanese food.
