Cyberdyne Inc. (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Nobuyuki Takahashi) is conducting PR activities and producing documentary notes for the film "People Left Behind: The Plight of Single Mothers in Japan," directed by Australian Lionel McAvoy.

The film will be screened at Human Trust Cinema Shibuya on September 22 (Sun.) and Director McAvoy will give a talk show.

One-day screening at Shibuya on 9/22

The film "People Left Behind: The Plight of Single Mothers in Japan" brings to light the "hidden poverty" in Japan, a country that was once thought to be affluent. Child poverty is particularly serious, and although 50% of single-parent families are poor, the public is unaware of this fact. This problem-solving film depicts the contradictions of Japanese society as seen from the perspective of a foreign filmmaker.

This film won the Audience Award Grand Prix in the Feature Length Competition at the 3rd Ishigaki Shonan International Documentary Film Festival and the Best Documentary Award at the 2nd Miyakojima International Film Festival. It was also entered in 39 festivals, including the Toronto Documentary Film Festival and the Chain International Film Festival (New York), where it won the Best Film Award 16 times. The film was also selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and has been widely covered by international media such as the Japan Times, Aera, and Gendai Business.
