This book summarizes the progress and achievements of researchers who, since the Great East Japan Earthquake, have focused their attention on submarine landslides, which cause huge tsunamis, and have accumulated practical experience in their efforts to eradicate tsunami disasters.
The theory of submarine landslides as a cause of tsunamis, pointed out by Takuji Ogawa in 1924, was silently dismissed without sufficient discussion in Japan. However, new data accumulated from the Great East Japan Earthquake and the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake have increased the importance of re-examining the relationship between submarine landslides and tsunamis.
The book contains many important texts for disaster management, including a review of the generation mechanisms of tsunamis and earthquakes, and proposals for disaster prediction and countermeasure technologies based on these mechanisms.
