The Japanese Breast Cancer Society Announces Appointment to Board of Directors - The third person from the private sector in the 32-year history of the Breast Cancer Society of Japan to be appointed as a member of the Board of Directors.

We are pleased to announce that Tomohiko Aihara, President of Keimeikai Aihara Hospital (Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture) and Director of Breast Center, was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the Japanese Breast Cancer Association (8,000 members) on July 10, 2024, and became the second elected member from a private hospital and the third in total. I am pleased to report that I am the second elected board member from a private hospital and the third in total.

The 400 trustees elected 6 directors, while 13 candidates ran for this year's board. Tomohiko Aihara is the only candidate from a private hospital. He was elected with the second highest number of votes.

Forty percent of breast cancer patients are examined and treated at local clinics and hospitals, and it is very important to improve the level of cooperation between hospitals and clinics and the level of medical care in the community. For this reason, I decided to run for the board of directors because I believe that having a board member not only from a large hospital but also from a private medical facility that is familiar with the inner workings of local medical care will help improve the quality of medical care from the local perspective, raise the level of breast cancer treatment, and help patients further beyond that.

I believe that my election to the board of directors of the Breast Cancer Society of Japan was based on the fact that the society shares my belief in the importance of regional disease-diagnosis cooperation and regional medical care in breast cancer treatment, and that my past achievements in the development of treatment guidelines (chair of the Drug Therapy Committee) and the continuation of clinical research were highly evaluated. I will continue to make efforts to serve breast cancer patients through my activities as a board member of the Japanese Breast Cancer Society.
