Wan Ei Corporation (Head office: Kita-ku, Tokyo; President: Hirotoshi Nagano) is launching a crowdfunding project to develop a new product centered on "Ofuda Bread" named after Oshibusawa Eiichi, the much talked about face of the new 10,000 yen bill, with the aim of creating a local community. The project aims to promote the achievements and teachings of O. Shibusawa and create a new specialty to enliven Tokyo's Kita Ward.

■Background of the project

Eiichi Shibusawa was a leading businessman of the Meiji era (1868-1912) and is known as the man who laid the foundation of Japan's modern economy. Kita-ku, Tokyo, where he spent the last 30 years of his life, is famous as the "town where bills are born," where the National Printing Bureau is located. The company has been operating a building management business and a food service contracting business in Kita Ward for 50 years since its establishment, and is one of the companies closely associated with Eiichi Shibusawa. The company is one of the companies closely associated with Mr. Eiichi Shibusawa.

Last year, the Shibusawa Itsuhinkan TSUNAGU marche opened near the Kita Ward Office to take advantage of this connection and promote the charms of the region. The marche is a base for developing a variety of products in collaboration with local communities in Kita Ward and throughout the country that are associated with Eiichi Shibusawa. This project is part of that effort.

Purpose of the Project

The aim of this project is to create a new specialty through public-private partnership and to enliven Kita Ward, Tokyo, at a time when the O Shibusawa Eiichi is the face of the new 10,000-yen bill. As a symbol of this, as part of the "New 10,000-yen Note Issuance Countdown Project" being undertaken in cooperation with Kita Ward, we have commercialized "Japan's First New 10,000-yen Note Osatsu no Osatsu Bread" (New 10,000-yen Note Osatsu Bread). Crowdfunding will be launched to make it a new specialty of Kita Ward.

Social Background

According to a survey conducted by Navid Corporation in June 2024, targeting 1,000 men and women in their 20s to 80s, 84.9% of respondents said they knew that new banknotes will be issued from July 3, 2024, and 84.3% said they knew Shibusawa Eiichi, who will be depicted on the new banknotes, Both of these figures were high. We hope to use this high level of recognition, at the perfect time when the new banknotes are issued, to help create a new community in Tokyo's Kita Ward.

Future Prospects

With the funds raised through this project, we would like to use the next round of funding to sell Oufuda bread in other places associated with O Shibusawa Eiichi, such as Fukaya City in Saitama Prefecture, in order to create momentum to draw attention to O Shibusawa Eiichi in the entire region involved and to enliven the region itself. By creating new specialties through public-private partnerships and connecting them to regional development, we hope to develop the Shibusawa Itsuhinkan TSUNAGU marche into a center of communication that will open up the future of the region.
