Background
Following the Corona disaster, a coup d'etat occurred in February 2021. Since then, Myanmar has been in a difficult and painful situation for a long time. The light of hope must not be extinguished. This August, 18 children under 12 years old from Myanmar will visit Japan to participate in the World Challenge soccer tournament. We hope that through sports and exchange in Japan, the children will feel the connection with the world outside Myanmar and with us in Japan, and keep their dreams and hopes for the future alive. We would like to bring positive "light" to the families of the children in faraway Myanmar and to the local communities.
Features
The U-12 Junior World Challenge is an international soccer tournament that has been held in Japan since 2013. The tournament has been held in Japan since 2013, with FC Barcelona winning the championship for the first time in 2013, and Tatehide Kubo, a member of Barcelona at the time, making a triumphant return to the tournament. Other prestigious European clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Juventus, and Bayern have also participated in the tournament in the past.
Under the current situation in Myanmar, the tournament management has kindly agreed to secure one team's entry to the tournament for the people of Myanmar.
*All children under the age of 12 in Myanmar will be selected by Japanese coaches dispatched to Myanmar, in addition to current academy players.
The 18 selected players and 7 coaches/leaders (total 25 players) will be invited from Myanmar to Japan for the U-12 Junior World Challenge 2024 to be held in Chiba Prefecture from August 20 to 23, 2024.
Volunteers from Japan who are interested in Myanmar and Myanmar citizens living in Japan will provide interpreters and escorts during their stay in Japan.
We hope to make the most of the limited time we have in Japan, not only for "exchange through soccer" by participating in the World Challenge, but also for "visits to Kamakura," a sacred place for many devout Buddhists in Myanmar, and "non-soccer exchange" with children of the same age group, to bring smiles to the children of Myanmar. We would like to make the most of the limited time we have in Japan to bring smiles to the faces of Myanmar children.
