About the NPO Japan Center for Vulnerable Men

NPO Japan Center for Vulnerable Men was established in July 2022.

Publicity activities for social recognition and understanding of vulnerable men.

Support for homeless and jobless men to receive public assistance and find employment.

Support for men who are victims of domestic violence and sexual crimes, and men who have been falsely accused of molestation, etc.

Support for men with mental illness or disabilities

As the reason for starting this project, "men-only carriages," society has been focusing on supporting women, such as the fact that most of the carriages and domestic violence shelters are for women only, and men who have been victims of similar crimes are often asked, "Since he is a man, he should be fine, right?

"He's a man, so he'll be fine, right?"

"Men can't be victims of sex crimes or receive domestic violence from women because they are men.

"Men are the perpetrators of sexual crimes, so we don't need to protect them.

We feel that we are discriminated against because we are men. Therefore, we have established an NPO to support men who have been victims of such crimes, although we may be a small number, in order to realize a true gender-equal society.

Why did we start this project?

As mentioned in the introduction of our organization, there are "women-only cars" in the world. We believe that this is a good activity won by women themselves to protect women from being molested.

However, we believe that if there are special cars for women, it is discrimination against men that there are no special cars for men. Men can be victims of sexual crimes such as molestation, and they can also be involved in cases of false accusations of molestation.

False accusation

Those who actually commit molestation should, of course, be punished according to the law. However, a man who is falsely accused of molesting a woman or someone around him, or who is caught up in a false accusation for financial gain, can have his entire life, including his relationships, work, school, and other living environments, ruined! We believe that men-only cars are necessary to prevent this from happening.

Unfortunately, however, we have not received any clear answers to our inquiries or opinions from major railroad companies. Therefore, we planned and held the first Men-only Car Event on November 19, 2022, the International Men's Day, by renting a train car.

We are planning to continue our activities until this men-only train is no longer an "event" but a routine feature of each railroad company.

We hope that women will consider the establishment of men-only cars for their own protection.

Details of the event are as follows

Place ：Tokyo Sakura Tram (Toden Arakawa Line) "Minowabashi" station

Departure Time ：12:50 (Please be there by 12:40 if you wish to join the tour)

This event is only for the purpose of establishing men-only carriages at actual railroad companies, etc. Women who agree with the purpose of our organization and wish to work as staff and female members of the media are also allowed to ride the train. If you wish to ride, please send us an email or DM us on X (formerly Twitter) or meet us at Minowabashi station by 12:40 on the day of the ride. (If the number of passengers exceeds the limit, the ride will be arranged on a first-come, first-served basis.)

Future plans

Men-only cars

We are continuing this project with the aim of preventing men from becoming victims of molestation or being falsely accused of molestation on the train. We hope to increase the number of people who agree with the purpose of this project by conducting this activity in June, which is Father's Day, and near November 19, which is International Men's Day, and hope that each railroad company will permanently install men-only cars.

We hope that this project will gain the support of the public and that each railway company will make men-only cars a permanent feature of their trains.
