Background of the solo exhibition "Human Beings Live Human Beings

How should human beings confront the rapidly developing AI and SNS societies in recent years? While also dealing with universal themes such as love and loneliness, I would like to create an exhibition space that provides an opportunity for visitors to take a fresh look at the domain and position of human beings, and to make the most of their existence as human beings.

About "Human Beings Live Human Beings

We would like to present this exhibition not only to the art world, but also to all generations, young and old, male and female, in Japan and abroad, as we will tackle the various issues surrounding us today from a universal theme. The exhibition is designed to provide an opportunity for each visitor to think for himself or herself, rather than simply viewing artworks.

This solo exhibition will feature 50 pieces of calligraphy, mainly new works. This will be his fifth solo exhibition at this location, but it is expected to be his last in this space due to the planned demolition of the building in conjunction with redevelopment. Some of the works are huge, taking advantage of the curved walls.

I believe that all human beings have things in their lives that they do not usually show or that cannot be put away neatly, and I hope that this space will be a place where each of us can have a dialogue with the deepest parts of our lives through the works. The installation "regaining substance" using a curved mirror that viewers themselves can touch to actively think and participate, as well as a cylindrical work suspended from the ceiling that requires viewers to move their own feet to see the whole picture.

We hope that this exhibition will provide visitors with an opportunity to think about how they should live their lives in the coming age, when people's true value as human beings will be questioned more and more.

This is not an exhibition of mere calligraphy. We hope to leave a legacy in the contemporary art scene as a universal expression based on our unique calligraphy concept of "Fluffy Border.

Artist

Hariyama Kurihara

Hariyama Kurihara

Born in Tokyo in 1984, based in Shizuoka and Tokyo, Japan.

Focusing on the depths of human nature rather than superficial healing, he continues to create philosophical works with "conflict" as the main theme.

He has developed his own style of calligraphy called "Mokomoko Border," in which light and shadow are reflected in his works by freely using sumi ink. As a contemporary art form, he challenges the expression of timelessness and universality. He also creates installations based on the concept of "regaining substance" using special curved mirrors.

In recent years, he has been active mainly in solo exhibitions, including at art fairs overseas.
