Kobe "Shiawase-no-Mura", The World of Art for the Disabled The 13th Art with Heart Exhibition" Call for Exhibiting Artists Started on May 13

Shiawase-no-Mura (Location: Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture), operated by Kobe Citizen's Welfare Promotion Association (Location: Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture; Representative: Jun Osada), a public interest incorporated foundation, will hold its 13th "Kokoro no Art Exhibition" from Monday, May 13, 2024, and call for entries.

The "Kokoro no Art Exhibition" is held to support the creative activities of people with disabilities, to provide them with opportunities to express themselves, and to give citizens the chance to discover the joy of free expression and to create a rich society and culture through artistic works that are not bound by frameworks. Unlike publicly solicited exhibitions in which one work per person is exhibited, the most distinctive feature of this project is that 10 artists are selected from among the applicants to exhibit multiple representative works of each artist, in a format similar to a "10-person solo exhibition" that creates a world view of the artist's work.

In addition, in order to convey the appeal of the works to a wider audience, traveling exhibitions are also held in succession.

In the past, the Kokoro no Art Exhibition has led to the artist's work being exhibited at a museum, and some people have liked the work so much that they have purchased it, making it a place for new encounters.

(1) Eligibility

Individuals with disabilities who live, work, study, or attend school in Hyogo Prefecture, who are involved in creative activities on a regular basis, and who already have at least 10 works that can be exhibited at the time of application. (The type and degree of disability, age, etc. are not required.)

(2) Applicants

Entries must be submitted by the applicant or recommended by a support worker or family member.

(3) Work standards

1) Plane works

Any genre is acceptable, including painting, calligraphy, and photography.

Size: No larger than F100 (1303mm x 1621mm)

2) Three-dimensional works

Any genre, such as ceramics, sculpture, textile, etc. Works that can be exhibited.

As a general rule, the total length, width and depth of the work must not exceed 300cm. However, the maximum length per side must not exceed 150 cm, the weight of the work must not exceed 20 kg, and the work must be able to be divided into pieces weighing less than 10 kg for transportation.

*Works that may infringe on copyrights (e.g. characters) are not allowed to be exhibited.

3) Selection Method

Candidates will be selected from among the entries, and after confirming the actual creative activities of the candidates, the final decision to exhibit will be made and the works to be exhibited will be selected.

Outline of the "13th Art for the Mind" Exhibition

(1) Dates

December 5, 2024 (Thursday) to January 13, 2025 (Monday, national holiday)

(3) Features of this exhibition

The exhibition will focus on the artist, with each artist exhibiting approximately 10 works in a solo exhibition format.

During the exhibition period, musicians selected from the public will perform mini-live performances of music inspired by the works.

A gallery talk with sign language interpretation will be held during the exhibition period.

After the exhibition, the works will be exhibited at the traveling exhibition, the permanent "Kokoro no Art Gallery" on the 2nd floor of the Shiawase-no-mura Main Building and the "Sampotika Gallery" (Sannomiya Chuo-dori Underground Passage) in order to convey the charm of the artists and their works to a wider audience. 5.

What is "Shiawase no Mura"?

The Village of Happiness, surrounded by lush greenery and reminiscent of southern Europe with its red roofs and white walls, is a comprehensive welfare zone for everyone from children to adults, the elderly to people with disabilities, located only 25 minutes by car from Sannomiya, the center of Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture.

The vast 205-hectare site includes welfare facilities that assist the independence of the elderly and disabled while fully utilizing nature, as well as a wide variety of outdoor sports facilities such as an athletic field, grass field, and campground, recreational facilities, lodging facilities, and hot spring facilities.
