MetCom expands it’s vertical postioning service – Pinnacle Covers Major Cities Nationwide

MetCom, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has extended the coverage area of its vertical positioning service, Pinnacle, to major cities throughout Japan, effective April 2024. The service is now available in the Kanto, Kansai, Chukyo, Sapporo, Sendai, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka cities. Within the service area, many smartphones will be able to provide height information in addition to horizontal location information by GPS and other means. By using "Pinnacle" compatible smartphone applications, users can now take advantage of services that utilize three-dimensional location information.

How Pinnacle works

Pinnacle compares and analyzes the information from the air pressure sensor built into the target device, such as a smartphone, with nearby reference point air pressure information via a network to measure the ground height of the target device in real time (patented technology).

Pinnacle's vertical positioning service is available through smartphone apps and IoT device services (*). For those developing Pinnacle-enabled apps and services, MetCom provides the SDK (Software Development Kit) and necessary information on our developer site.

(*) A device with a built-in barometric pressure sensor, GPS, and communication functions is required.
