In anticipation of the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen line in Fukui on March 16, 2024 (Saturday), we are pleased to announce that we have developed new accommodation plans and optional tours to fully enjoy Wakasa in cooperation with local residents and businesses.
An outline of the new plans and optional tours is as follows.

(1) Minshuku in Ano × Wakasa Kahi = Enjoy the fishing village! Wakasa Mahata and Local Fish Boat Sashimi Plan at the Guest House
In Ano, Obama City, where Wakasa Kahi is located, 13 of the 18 houses still operate minshuku. These guest houses operate a fishing business in the sea that stretches out in front of the village and sell fresh fish they catch themselves, attracting many fans.
This plan offers a great combination of Wakasa Kahi for overnight stay and dinner at a nearby minshuku, where you can enjoy a meal featuring boating and boiling of local fish.
For the main course, we offer sashimi and simmered Wakasa mahata, a new brand of fish from Wakasa. Mahata is a high-end fish that is not easily available to the general public due to its small catch. The sweetness of Wakasa mahata can be felt in the sashimi, and its flavor is concentrated in the simmered dish. Please enjoy this exuberant meal that only a guest house can offer.
In creating this plan, we have asked the minshuku of Ano to create an original menu for this plan, and the entire village is cooperating with us.

(2) Sake Pairing Plan: Sake-No-Ten Hayashi x Hamase Sake Shop x Wakasa Kahi = Enjoy Fukui's Local Sake
There are more than 30 sake breweries in Fukui Prefecture, where unique sake is made by taking advantage of the local water and climate.
This plan allows you to enjoy a sumptuous Japanese kaiseki dinner featuring seafood from Wakasa paired with Fukui's local sake. Eight types of sake, about 2 1/2 cups (450 ml) of Fukui sake, will be served to accompany the meal.
In addition to the standard sake, guests will be able to enjoy the depth of Fukui's sake by trying slightly unusual sakes and changing the way of drinking, such as on the rocks or lukewarm.
In creating this plan, we asked Sake-no-Ten Hayashi (Fukui City) and Hamase Sake Shop (Obama City), which offer a wide selection of Fukui's sake and convey its appeal, to provide guidance on the characteristics of sake and how to drink it.

<The Story of Wakasa Kahi
Wakasa Kahi is a fully renovated hotel formerly known as "Itaya Ryokan" in Ano, Obama City.
Ano is a village where Wakasa fugu (blowfish) and other cultured fisheries are flourishing, and 14 of the 18 households in the village operate guesthouses, and the community is known for its concerted efforts to attract visitors. Wakasa fugu is a popular winter delicacy, and in recent years, efforts have been made to cultivate Wakasa mahata, which attracts many tourists throughout the year. In addition, the educational travel initiative started in 2007 has expanded to now accept approximately 6,000 visitors annually, and in 2018 was selected by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries as a "Discover the Treasures of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing Villages".
Meanwhile, the Itaya Ryokan used to be the inn that attracted the most guests in Ano village, but following its closure in May 2020, the people of Ano village, the Fukui Bank Group, and Machizukuri Obama, Inc. have been discussing the use of the building. As a result, in response to the desire of the Ano villagers to "add value to the Ano guest house in line with the times and to connect it to the future," in June 2021 the Ano villagers, the Fukui Regional Revitalization Fund (operator: Fukui Capital & Consulting Co., Ltd.), and Machidukuri Obama, Inc. Ltd." to work on the revitalization of the former Itaya Ryokan.
In the revitalization project of the former Itaya Ryokan, Ano Co., Ltd. will purchase the land and building of the former Itaya Ryokan and renovate it as a ryokan/minshuku revitalization platform company, and Machidukuri Obama Co. Ltd. will operate the facility by utilizing the know-how on the operation of accommodation facilities that it has accumulated through the Obama Machiya Stay and Matsunaga Rokkan.
<Outline of Wakasa Kahi
Concept of the accommodation facility
Kahi" means "good day.
In Ano, Obama City, a fishing village rich in nature surrounded by the calm sea and mountains of Wakasa Bay, there is a view as if the sea and mountains of Wakasa Bay are one, fishermen landing their catch in fish ponds floating on the sea, houses with tiled roofs and alleys lined up shoulder to shoulder, and a rich lifestyle that is somehow nostalgic but unlike anything you have ever encountered. The city of Obama was founded by the Imperial Court in 1868.
The concept of the restaurant is based on the story of Obama City's development as a gourmet food producing center that offered seafood to the Imperial Court and supported Kyoto's food culture through the "Saba Kaido" (mackerel road). The concept is "a fine day where nature, food, and people of Wakasa overlap and weave together.
About the Facilities
The facility consists of five buildings: the main building, a detached house, an annex, a warehouse, and an outdoor hot spring.
There are 13 guest rooms of 9 different types, each with its own character, in 3 different buildings: the main building, the detached building, and the annex. The renovated buildings, which were once ryokan buildings, offer a blend of the old and the new, a space that cannot be created in a newly built building.
The main building is a Japanese-style house with five rooms: three rooms with a front view of the ocean, a room with a private balcony overlooking the ocean, and a room with a view of the alleyways of the Ano village.
The annex is a bold renovation of the building that formerly housed the bathhouse of the former Itaya Ryokan, with three suite rooms available for private use, one per floor.
The annex will have a total of five rooms: four Japanese-style rooms with baths and one special dog-friendly room where guests can stay with their dogs.
The storehouse has been renovated into a lounge exclusively for guests, serving local sake and juice, which guests can use at no extra charge.
The outside bath will be a bath with a view of Wakasa Bay. Guests will be able to enjoy the view of Wakasa Bay from two different perspectives: an infinity bath with a view leading to the sea, and a bath with a cut-out panoramic view (men and women are interchangeable).
Project direction is by Jyuryo Iwasa (Jiyujin Co., Ltd., Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture), design by Shigerei Uotani & Associates (CEO: Shigerei Uotani, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture), construction by Wakko Kenso Co. (Representative: Fuminobu Nakamura, Fukui-shi, Fukui Prefecture) was in charge of designing the logo, signage, website, etc.
About the Meals
Meals are served in the dining room on the first floor of the main building. The main course for dinner is Wakasa guji from April to September and Wakasa fugu from October to March. Using an abundance of Obama ingredients, the course is filled with the story of Obama from appetizer to dessert. Breakfast is also full of Obama delicacies, including Wakasa gurei, mackerel dried in soy sauce, and heshiko.
