Asakusa Sumo Room Co. (Location: 2-10-12 Asakusa, Taito-ku, Tokyo; President: Masayoshi Yokoyama) opened Asakusa Sumo Room, a chanko-nabe restaurant on the first floor of the Asakusa Rockza Building (a commercial facility in the Roku-ku district of Asakusa, Taito-ku) on January 19, 2024 (Friday).

Asakusa is a popular sightseeing spot for Japanese and foreign tourists alike, and is close to Ryogoku Grand Sumo Tournament, which is currently in its main tournament season.

The 76-seat auditorium was filled to capacity for one stage from the time of opening, and three stages were held that day. After tucking into the restaurant's signature "special soy sauce chanko-nabe," a special event on the first day of the opening was a show by the Shochiku Revue OG, featuring a close-up of the beauty of Edo's splendid oiran (courtesans), as well as a Japanese dance and other shows expressing the bustle of the Edo period.

The main attraction was a live sumo show performed by former sumo wrestlers in a real sumo ring, which excited the audience.

We are very grateful for the great response we have received since the first day of the event and the support we have received from many people due to the recent popularity of sumo and the fact that the main sumo tournament is now underway. We will continue to strive to create a sumo show and restaurant that will satisfy our customers.

We have been inundated with inquiries about the Sumo Show, and we have many reservations at all times.

The Sumo Show will open with a dance performance by geisha, followed by a Sumo Show featuring former sumo wrestlers performing sumo moves and matches, and a challenge wrestling match with sumo wrestlers in which guests can participate.

Special soy sauce chanko-nabe" supervised by Chankoban, a former sumo wrestler, will be served at a table for each guest. You will enjoy the chanko-nabe. Vegan dishes are also available.

Demonstration of basic movements and bouts, etc.

Challenge to former sumo wrestler (40 min.)

You can try on a sumo costume or try on a real sumo wrestler's mawashi (belt).

About Asakusa Wanko Soba

Asakusa Wanko Soba, located in the same restaurant, offers Morioka-style wanko soba, a type of soba served one after another in small bowls, for your enjoyment and entertainment! It is served with 8 kinds of recommended condiments.

The waiter will call out a call, and a mouthful of soba will be tossed into the bowl in front of you.

Please enjoy it with 8 kinds of delicious condiments.
