Chichibu Railway Company (Head office: Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture; President: Hidenobu Makino) will operate the "Pokapoka Kotatsu Boat" from January 1 (Mon., holiday) to February 29 (Thu.), 2024, during the winter season only. Visitors can warm their feet with a kotatsu installed in a Japanese-style boat and enjoy a leisurely 20-minute boat ride around Iwatami to view the beauty of Nagatoro Gorge. In winter, Nagatoro Gorge is characterized by a calm current, the river surface glowing emerald green, and the silence accentuated by the sound of boatmen wading in the water and birds chirping. Hodosan Ropeway "New Year's Day Sunrise Viewing Service

Hodosan Ropeway will operate a special early-morning "New Year's Day Sunrise Viewing Service" that allows visitors to see the sunrise from Hodosan. Amazake (sweet sake) and pork miso soup will be sold at the Hodosan summit station.

Chichitetsu Nagatoroeki Soba Restaurant next to Nagatoro Station, operated by Chichibu Railway Group's Chichitetsu Shoji, is offering a limited menu "Nagatoro Kinpira Soba" for the New Year season. It is a hot soba with kinpira gobo (burdock root) on top of kakesoba (buckwheat noodles). Kinpira gobo" is a common way of eating soba in Chichibu area.

About "Nagatorozan Fudoji Nanakusa Porridge Festival

Nagatorozan Fudoji Temple holds a New Year's prayer service and serves rice gruel with the seven herbs in a cauldron to visitors on January 7 every year as "Shichikusa Porridge Festival". The seven herbs rice porridge served is the "Kaiun Porridge" of the Gohonzon, Godaicho Myoo, to pray for good health and good fortune.
