◆Issues and data on headaches in Japan
The total number of headache patients in Japan is estimated to be about 32-33 million, and the economic loss is said to be about 300 billion yen. The overall prevalence of migraine headache in Japan is estimated to be 8.4%. Headaches are clearly more prevalent in females, with 3.6% of males and 12.9% of females suffering from headaches, and although there is no gender difference in prevalence among children under 10 years of age, the rate increases among females from around the age of 12, when they reach menarche.

◆Documented the blog "Headache Diary" for more than 10 years after the onset of his daughter's headaches.
In 2001, when Director Tamura first opened a neurosurgery practice in Kagoshima, he did not have much to do with "headaches. One day, however, when his daughter was 3 years old, she developed a severe headache. After much trial and error and research, he began to receive visits from parents of children with headaches and adults with headaches from all over the world. Tamura felt it was his mission to help headache sufferers, and decided to open a clinic in Fukuoka because he thought "if there is such a great need for headaches, I can help even more people by opening a clinic in Fukuoka, a large city with a larger population than Kagoshima.
◆Need to specialize in headaches specific to children and women
I have treated a total of about 10,000 patients with headaches. With the experience of seeing many patients, Tamura would like to mainly attend to pediatric headaches and women's headaches.
First of all, headaches in children are often overlooked because children cannot verbally complain about them. As for headaches in women, as shown in the data at the beginning of this article, they are overwhelmingly more common than in men. Tamura sees this as a challenge as we enter an era in which women will increasingly enter the workforce.
◆About the Never Give Up Headache Clinic
Our clinic proposes a wide range of treatment methods based on our accumulated know-how. In particular, we mainly offer preventive medication, which has been used in many cases of improvement, and treatment that incorporates multiple headache medications at the same time.
In addition, I have deepened my research on the relationship between headaches and psychiatric disorders through my 20-year career as a psychiatrist. In particular, research has shown that headache sufferers have a reduced ability to control their motivation. We are committed to providing our patients with mental health care through counseling by a clinical psychologist.
