■Swimming Coach Training Leads to More People Who Can Swim

S&F Corporation, which operates SAGINUMA Swimming Club in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, has started training swimming instructors in 2019 based on the philosophy that training swimming instructors is the starting point for the spread of swimming, and based on the know-how of swimming instructor training that has been conducted in Japan for 50 years. We have trained more than 20 Vietnamese swimming instructors so far.

■Swimming programs that subdivide the process of "being able to swim" are the strength of Japanese swimming instruction.

Many swimming clubs in Japan have adopted a swimming program that breaks down the process of learning to swim into smaller steps and visualizes the progression of the swimmer.

This segmented and visualized swimming program allows even inexperienced instructors to teach swimming.

It also provides a goal for students to continue swimming, since they can track their own progress toward swimming proficiency.

Therefore, we believe that in order to popularize swimming, it is necessary not only to train instructors to teach how to teach swimming, but also to introduce swimming programs that enable students to learn to swim regardless of their experience in teaching swimming.

■Training in Japan will begin this year.

In order to deepen understanding of the Japanese-style swimming program, which has been subdivided and visualized, we invited Vietnamese swimming coaches to Japan and started training them at the Saginuma Swimming Club on swimming instruction and the Japanese-style swimming program. This year, a total of five Vietnamese were trained in February, May, and October to deepen their understanding of the Japanese swimming program and put it into practice in Vietnam.

Through this kind of instructor training and deepening understanding of the Japanese swimming program, which enables swimming instruction regardless of teaching experience, we aim to promote swimming and reduce the number of water-related accidents.

This year, we will also begin field surveys with a view to training instructors in countries where the need for swimming is increasing, with the goal of helping as many people as possible to learn to swim.
