Kaohsiung Golf Club Co. (Location: Ukyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Takuro Maruyama), which operates a driving range in Kyoto City, has launched the "Club Handover Campaign 2024 Spring", the fifth in a series of events to give away free golf clubs to beginners who are about to start playing golf. Applications for the campaign began on November 1, 2023 (Wednesday). The number of golf clubs reused so far in the campaign has reached approximately 3,200, and the intergenerational reuse of golf clubs is an initiative that also contributes to a recycling-oriented society.

The campaign has been a hot topic in the media. The "Club Osagari Campaign" has so far reused approximately 3,200 bottles.

The "Club Reuse Campaign" is an intergenerational reuse campaign in which customers give us their old golf clubs, which are no longer in use, and our clubs act as an intermediary to give them to new golfers, including young golfers who are just starting their game.

With the support of many people, a total of 3,262 golf clubs have been given away so far, including 939 in the first event held in 2021, 987 in the second, 716 in the third, and 620 in the fourth. This initiative has attracted attention, including coverage in national newspapers and on a news program of a beloved local TV station in Kyoto, and in September of this year we were selected as an SDGs partner company by Newsweek Japan. This will be the fifth time the event has been held.

The attempt to actively "reuse" unused golf clubs by giving them away to people who want to take up golf is a social contribution activity that is also linked to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). We also hope that people will develop a love for golf by owning their own equipment, and that this will help revitalize the golf industry.

As a reward for golfers who donate their golf clubs, the Club will give them 500 points that can be used for practice fees and service coupons according to the assessed value.

Background of the Project

This project was initiated with the hope that "by encouraging young beginners to own their own golf clubs, they will learn to love golf and help revitalize the golf industry.

Golf has gained attention as a pastime that can be enjoyed without being "3-dense" in the Corona disaster, but even so, the relative decline in the number of people playing golf has been remarkable. While the golf population at its peak in 1994 was 14.5 million, by 2021 it had dropped to 5.6 million, partly due to the aging of golfers and partly due to the low participation rate of younger golfers.

One of the reasons for the lack of younger players is the high cost of golf clubs. This campaign is one of our efforts to nurture the next generation of young golfers, so that the boom caused by the Corona disaster will not be a temporary phenomenon. By encouraging them to own their own golf clubs, we hope to deepen their attachment to golf and contribute to the revitalization of the industry as a whole.

Takao Golf Club is a large 300-yard driving range established in 1973 in Kyoto City.

It has the largest number of left-hand bunkers in Kyoto, a practical bunker practice area, and a pro shop selling golf equipment under direct management.
