What is the Negative Pressure Position Stabilizer (for supine use)?

It is a surgical positioning mat (medical device) developed jointly with the National Cancer Center Hospital East for use when surgery is performed in the supine position for an extended period of time. 2.

The patient side surface has a thin and soft urethane layer, and the back side of the operating bed has a negative pressure bead layer. 3.

When the negative pressure beads are filled with air, the patient can flexibly adjust his/her position during surgery according to his/her posture. 4.

When the patient is in an appropriate posture, the air in the negative pressure bead layer is released, and the beads are fixed along the patient's body without any gaps to hold the patient in position for a long period of time.

Features of the Negative Pressure Position Stabilizer (for supine use)

(1) Comes with a belt and buckle for easy and secure fixation to the operating table. (2) The urethane layer on the top allows for easy and secure fixation to the operating table.

The urethane layer in the upper part reduces the pressure burden by more than 20% compared to conventional products, and prevents skin problems during surgery. 3.

The lower layer of negative pressure beads has a double-bag structure (outer bag + inner bag), which eliminates the tendency for the beads to be unevenly distributed or to bottom out compared to existing products, making it easier to equalize the beads prior to positioning. 4.

The PU (polyurethane) material used for the front surface is thin, soft, and wrinkle-resistant, so it gently wraps the patient's body. The reverse side is made of a thicker, stronger material. 5.

The PU (polyurethane) material used for the front and back surfaces has antibacterial properties. 6.

Background of Product Development

Sanyo has obtained a medical device manufacturing and sales license from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and a medical device manufacturing registration from the Osaka Prefectural Government, aiming to contribute to society by solving issues in the medical field against the backdrop of an aging population, utilizing its experience, know-how, and knowledge of over 75 years in the field of synthetic resin products such as PVC.

We received comments from the medical field that existing products (1) are mainly made overseas and the voices of the medical field are not speedily reflected in design and development, (2) it is difficult to make various preparations to avoid skin problems during long surgeries, and (3) it is time-consuming to level the beads before use. We began development in collaboration with the National Cancer Center Hospital East.

During the development period, we received great cooperation from Nippon Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. which provided the negative pressure bead layer of the multiple bag structure, the Tokyo Metropolitan Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Corporation, and other related parties under the government's policy of creating and fostering the medical device industry.

In April 2021, we launched the "Negative Pressure Position Stabilizer (for side lying position)" in the same series.
