Diana Trading TOKYO (Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Naoko Takaya), an importer and seller of cork products from Portugal, will open a stall at the "Portugal Fair" to be held from September 2 (Sat) to 20 (Wed), 2023 at Einkalem on the 4th floor of Kyobunkan in Chuo-ku, Tokyo. We will sell new sustainable "cork goods" products.

■What is sustainable cork?

Cork is made from the bark of the cork oak, which is harvested from each cork oak in a nine-year cycle. The bark can be extracted repeatedly for about 200 years. It is an eco-friendly and sustainable material that does not involve the felling of trees. It is a sustainable natural resource that contributes to the SDGs.

It accounts for about 50% of the world's production. The Mediterranean climate is ideal for the cultivation of cork oak. In addition, the laws protecting cork are very strict, and the cultivation methods of cork oak and the nutritional management of the soil are thoroughly enforced throughout the country. This law is the reason why we are able to produce high quality cork with high elasticity and fragrance.

Background of "Portugal Fair

Portugal is a country that has no direct flights from Japan and takes about 20 hours each way via connecting flights, and many people say they would like to visit Portugal but find it difficult. In addition, there are fewer events in Japan than in the U.K. or France, and there are fewer opportunities to experience Portuguese culture.

In order to allow as many people as possible to experience Portugal, we will hold the first "Portugal Fair" at Kyobunkan in Ginza, selling cork goods and other items directly imported from Portugal.
