About the film

The film "My Name is Lucien" is an ensemble drama with various elements mixed together. Chikako Oyama likes ensemble dramas. Instead of following one protagonist to the end, she depicts the people around him or her and constructs a society through them.

This film is about a family and the people surrounding them. Why does the family need them? The husband, who overlaps his work with his life. A wife who seeks religion for her unfulfilled feelings. A sister who is striving to successfully retreat from life. A sister who is considered dangerous by everyone in the family for stepping out of line.

The story is composed of this family and the people surrounding them.

As a photographer, Chikako Oyama's life's work is her commitment to "nudity. Nudity always appears in her works. This is because "nudity" is eloquent.

She is fascinated by the texture of the skin we wear, its texture, and the history of the skin. I am fascinated by them. It is the only thing we own as ourselves.

Behind the scenes of the film

It took six years to make this film because of Oyama's obsession with images.

This film was a very difficult first attempt at a feature film. Along the way, the actress dropped out, the cameraman walked out, the recording department, etc., a world I had never experienced before was waiting for me. But what made it possible to finish the film to the end was, to say the least, Toshihiro Isomi, the art director, Osamu Ichikawa, the director of photography, and Masatsugu Shinozaki, who composed the emotionally rich soundtrack that pulled the story together. And I think it was the enthusiasm of the cast members who performed strongly until the very end.

Oyama went to London to shoot underwater in search of a 6-meter-deep tank. In Essex, an hour east of London, there was a pool with an open ceiling. The tank was designed for underwater photography, and a crane is to drop a car from above. Two trained divers were standing by at the bottom of the water in tank for our shoot.

Casting of "My Name is Lucien" took a long time. She called and visited several actor agencies to look for Lucien's image. The search of image took months. One day she saw Yanagi , she thought she saw Lucien standing in front of her. Shuntaro Yanagi was chosen no matter . There were many actors than Ishe expected who wanted to play this role despite his habit of deceiving women.

When I was floating the idea for this film, an incident occurred. From that incident, the mass that had been lodged in my mind became literal like flowing water and began to come to life. The pieces that had been lurking in my mind began to connect. This was my first experience making a feature film. So I wanted to express the images in my mind as close as possible . It was my dream to screen the film in the EURO SPACE. I hope I can share my images with the people who see it, even if only for some moment.
