Mallet Japan, to sell a wide range of artworks from contemporary, Yoshitomo Nara and Ayako Rokkaku, to modern, Picasso, Chagall, Kisling, etc., on July 27, 2023 online and on-site sales on the same day

Mallet Japan will hold "Mallet Sale #230727" on July 27, 2023 in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

The third "M-Live Auction," an online live-streaming auction, will be held on the same day.

Introduced below are the featured lots out of about 240 artworks from the two sales.

Auction Catalogue

"double helix 74" by Mitsumasa Kadota, LOT 079, is on the cover of the catalogue.

Kadota, born in 1980 in Shizuoka Prefecture, is a high-profile artist who held a large-scale solo exhibition at Lincoln Center in 2019 with the support of MoMA.

With the theme of multifacetedness, the artist explores new pictorial expressions that break through existing frameworks through a variety of colors and brushstrokes.

The cover artwork is composed of two canvases with different atmospheres, side by side.

Moïse Kisling

Two unique works by Moïse Kisling will go under the hammer for the first time in five years at Mallet Japan.

Born in Poland, the son of a wealthy tailor, Kisling moved to Paris at the age of 19 and befriended Picasso and Modigliani.

He achieved early success and was called the "Prince of Montparnasse," and his works are known for their vivid colors and exotic images of women.

Next on view is a size 15 canvas by Miwa Komatsu.

Her dynamic works based on motifs of divine beasts such as komainus (guardian dogs) and dragons are impressive. In 2015, a three-dimensional work was collected by the Asia Department of the British Museum.

LOT 071 "Two-headed Komainu" boldly depicts komainu, an important motif for the artist, on a background of gold paint.

Pre-auction Viewing

The M-Live Auction, which will be held for the third time, is an auction open exclusively to online live bidding.

The lineup consists of around 80 lots, mainly contemporary works, including works by Backside works., Daniel Arsham, Konatsu Taniguchi and others.

The auction will be held on Thursday, 27 July 2023.

Applications for absentee bids and telephone bidding (excluding online bids in advance) will be accepted until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
