Shinshu Ueda Matsutake & Wine Festival 2023" to be held September 23-24 To preserve endangered matsutake mushrooms for the next generation, Crowdfunding also started to preserve endangered matsutake mushrooms for future generations.

Shinshu Ueda Matsutake & Wine Festival 2023 Executive Committee

The Shinshu Ueda Matsutake & Wine Festival 2023 Executive Committee will hold the "Shinshu Ueda Matsutake & Wine Festival 2023" gastronomy festival and gastronomy tours in Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture on September 23 (Sat. holiday) and 24 (Sun.), 2023. Shinshu Ueda is one of the largest matsutake production areas in Japan, but due to the devastation of the satoyama, the domestic matsutake mushroom harvest has drastically decreased to only 0.3% of the pre-war level. In order to preserve matsutake mushrooms, which are in danger of being designated an "endangered species," for the next generation, we started a crowdfunding campaign on August 10 (Thu.) on Campfire with the aim of "revitalizing satoyama" and "creating a new food culture.

About the event

Ueda City, with its rich nature and the romantic atmosphere of the Warring States period, is actually one of the largest matsutake mushroom production areas in Japan. The Chikumagawa Wine Valley is one of the most famous wine regions in Japan, and new wineries are springing up one after another.

This project was born out of the "UEDA WINE BUSINESS LAB," a program to discover and develop human resources involved in the wine business, which is part of the "Ueda Wine Project" organized by Ueda City and the KIRIN Group.

UEDA WINE BUSINESS LAB

The harvest of domestically produced matsutake mushrooms has dropped to about 0.3% of the prewar level due to the devastation of satoyama, and matsutake mushrooms have been designated as an "endangered species" and are in a critical situation. In order to preserve the rich aroma and flavor of domestic matsutake mushrooms for future generations, we plan to develop activities to revitalize satoyama through this festival and gastronomy tours, appreciating the blessings that come from the marriage of nature and people.
